TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President Tsai Ing-wen met with a Canadian delegation on Thursday (July 6), expressing Taiwan's readiness to join the CPTPP.

The President highlighted Taiwan's efforts in enhancing domestic regulations and adhering to high-standard international trade norms. She called for Canada's support in Taiwan's bid to join the CPTPP, aiming to foster greater growth and prosperity.

President Tsai further emphasized the strong economic complementarity between Taiwan and Canada. She mentioned the ongoing negotiations of the Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (FIPA), also known as the Taiwan-Canada Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement, which was announced earlier this year. The agreement is expected to deepen economic cooperation between the two nations.

The Canadian parliamentary delegation visited Taiwan to discuss bilateral cooperation and Taiwan's accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

Led by Melissa Lantsman, Deputy Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, the delegation comprised seven cross-party members who engaged in meetings and discussions with Taiwanese government officials.

The Canadian delegation's visit included a visit to Hsinchu Science Park, which was seen as a valuable opportunity to explore potential industrial collaborations. Both sides were committed to promoting friendly cooperation and enhancing their bilateral relationship.
