TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The sinkhole that emerged on Monday (July 10) morning is ten times larger than the one that materialized two days earlier, measuring 20 meters in length, 15 meters in width, and 2.5 meters in depth, leaving road users astounded and residents apprehensive. Repairs are underway, and traffic is expected to resume within 3 days.

Taipei  Mayor, Ching Wan-an, stressed the priority of conducting comprehensive monitoring in the vicinity of the sinkhole and implementing a road closure on the two-way section of Nanjing West Road from Xining North Road to Huanhe North Road. The Police Radio Station will provide timely updates on traffic information to minimize disruptions.

Taipei Deputy Mayor  Lee Shu-chuan pointed out that water and gas supplies have been suspended for 108 and 81 households, respectively. The Taipei Water Department has set up temporary water supply sites at No. 301 and  No. 325  Nanjing West Road.

"We hope to complete the ground improvement within 3-4 days to restore traffic," stated Lee.

Residents nearby are affected by the suspension of water and gas services and the fear of potential building collapses. In response, professional civil engineers have arrived at the site and installed a collapse warning system to safeguard the residents' safety.

The Taipei Water Department is making every effort to do the repairs and apologizes for any inconvenience caused. If this incident impacts you, don't hesitate to contact the 24-hour customer service hotline at (02) 8733-5678.
