TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Education has collaborated for the first time with the Asia Institute-Crane House (AICH) from Kentucky to enhance the English proficiency of elementary and junior high school students. AICH has reportedly dispatched nine English teachers to Taiwan for a three-week English summer camp, with the participation of 600 students.

According to a press release released on Monday (July 17) by the Ministry of Education, AICH is a non-governmental organization based in Kentucky promoting the Teach in Asia program. Over 500 American teachers have been selected to teach English in Asia through this initiative.

This year marks the first collaboration between AICH and Taiwan. The nine English teachers selected by AICH will conduct English summer camp activities until July 21 in 16 elementary and junior high schools in Tainan and Kaohsiung.

The camp includes activities introducing American culture, music, festivals, and geography to immerse students in an English-speaking environment and strengthen their listening and speaking skills.

Since signing the Taiwan-U.S. Education Initiative in December 2020, the Ministry of Education has actively promoted educational exchanges between Taiwan and various states in the United States.

In 2021, the Ministry of Education and the Education Department of Kentucky signed a memorandum of educational cooperation, facilitating academic exchanges between educational institutions and personnel from Taiwan and Kentucky.

This summer camp program is one of the concrete outcomes of the bilateral educational cooperation memorandum.
