TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Premier Chen Chien-jen on Tuesday (July 18) called the "1992 Consensus" and "One China Policy" from mainland China unacceptable to the Taiwanese people, urging respect for Taiwan's views from the Chinese government and society.

Speaking ahead of a legislative session, Chen emphasized that cross-strait exchanges should be conducted in a peaceful, equal, and democratic manner for a healthy and orderly dialogue, responding to a previous statement from business tycoon Terry Guo.

The founder of the Hon Hai Group recently penned an op-ed in The Washington Post advocating for direct talks between Taiwan and China under the "One China, Different Interpretations" framework. Guo argues that dialogue is the only way to ease tensions and uphold Taiwan's democracy, freedom, and the rule of law.

Regarding former U.S. President Donald Trump's criticism in a recent media interview, accusing Taiwan of taking away semiconductor jobs from the United States, Premier Chen stated that bilateral cooperation between Taiwan and the U.S. in economy, trade, and industry is close and mutually beneficial.

He highlighted the positive communication between the Taiwanese government, the U.S. administration, and both parties in Congress in enhancing cooperation in these areas. Premier Chen refrained from commenting on the mentioned opinion.
