TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Typhoon Khanun is expected to reach its closest point to Taiwan on Thursday evening (Aug. 3), according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).

The typhoon's center is currently located 360 kilometers northeast of Taipei and is slowly heading northwest at a speed of 5 kilometers per hour.

The CWB has issued a land warning, and as a result, school and work have been suspended in four areas of northern Taiwan, which include Taipei City, New Taipei City, Keelung City, and Yilan County.

Although the CWB predicts that the center of Typhoon Khanun will touch down later today, its path remains uncertain due to unclear steering flow, potentially causing irregular movements.

CWB forecaster Hsu Chung-yi has warned of heavy rainfall in northern Taiwan, particularly on the north coast. Some mountainous areas near Hsinchu and Miaoli may experience heavy rain.

Hsu added that Taiwan's southwestern region may experience more rain after this evening due to strengthening southwestern winds, with heavy downpours expected in the mountainous areas.
