TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Typhoon Khanun is located in the sea east of Taipei on Thursday (Aug. 03) and is expected to move northwesterly. This weather disturbance will likely cause increased wave activity in Northern and Northeastern Taiwan, with storm impacts likely in Keelung, the North Coast, and the northern regions of Yilan.

Earlier that day, Premier Chen Chien-Jen accompanied President Tsai Ing-wen in monitoring the Central Emergency Operation Center's actions. Chen emphasized the importance of improving drainage systems and enforcing hazard zone regulations to ensure public safety.

He urged the public to avoid hazardous areas like mountains and seaside locations. The Central Disaster Prevention Center has convened four meetings, and the premier stressed that suitable measures to counter the typhoon's impact are underway.

Due to the typhoon, work and school are canceled today in Taipei, New Taipei City, Keelung, and Yilan. Chen reminded the public to avoid nonessential outdoor trips, especially mountainous, river, and beach locations.
