TAIPEI (TVBS News) —The sixth typhoon of the year, Typhoon Khanun, has caused massive waves and strong winds in both northern and southern coastal areas of Taiwan. The Greater Taipei Area has also been affected by the typhoon, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

According to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB), the typhoon is moving slowly westward at 3 kilometers per hour. The CWB predicted the storm would touch down later than expected, after Thursday (Aug. 3) evening.

As Typhoon Khanun approached, strong winds caused heavy waves at the Wushi Fishing Harbor in Yilan County. Authorities urged visitors to avoid coastal areas.

In Pingtung County, a ferry carrying several passengers cautiously sailed toward Xiaoliuqiu Island amid stormy weather. Some passengers took medicine to prevent motion sickness before boarding.

In Xinzhuang District, New Taipei City, a scaffolding collapsed from a 24-floor construction site due to the solid winds. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as police and construction workers immediately cleaned up the area.

Meanwhile, Typhoon Khanun also uprooted several trees in Taipei City, causing traffic disruptions. Firefighters and police officers responded quickly to the situation.
