TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan People's Party (TPP) chairman and presidential candidate Ko Wen-je commented on Friday (Aug. 4) on the election strategies of the Kuomintang (KMT) and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

He remarked that the KMT presidential candidate Hou Yu-ih's approval rate has recently rebounded, indicating that the KMT's approach to rally support from the blue camp has been more effective.

According to Ko, Hou has been compelled to revert to traditional KMT election strategies, such as accepting the "1992 Consensus," to maintain his political stronghold.

Ko noted, however, that sticking to a political stronghold can hinder innovation and progress. He emphasized that DPP presidential candidate Lai Ching-te also adopts strategic conservatism, which could harm the country's development.

Ko explained that politicians should tackle the nation's challenges head-on, underscoring the importance of addressing national issues directly in the presidential election, as relying solely on traditional party bases may limit Taiwan's future potential for growth and development.

Based on the most recent poll, Lai maintains his lead with a support rate of 33%, while Ko follows with 22%, showing a slight decline of 3%. Hou remains in the third position, garnering 18-19% support.
