TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Vice President Lai Ching-te will lead a delegation to Paraguay with transit stops in New York and San Francisco. These plans have sparked significant protests from the Chinese government.

Against this backdrop, Wu Tzu-chia, chairman of local online news outlet My-Formosa.com, predicted that China will likely respond with significant military drills, potentially on par with or exceeding those seen during U.S. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi's Taiwan visit earlier.

He said this escalation could bring tensions across the Taiwan Strait to a boiling point in August and bring military activities closer to Taiwan than ever before.

Speaking on the news program 'Newscast Qianlima' on Chung T'ien Television, Wu reiterated the seriousness of Lai's U.S. stopover, implying that the Chinese People's Liberation Army would not only launch military drills but could also breach the median line of the strait.

With escalating military drills from China, program host Ma Chien-hui questioned if the Democratic Progressive Party's resistance would be beneficial.

Wu argued otherwise, noting that such activities would pressure the U.S., which already criticized Lai's approach twice this year via statements in the Financial Times.

Wu concluded that while Lai's trip harbors uncertainty, China's imminent military action is more concerning.
