TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) official urged his party members to prepare for the worst on Wednesday (Aug. 9), amid intense speculation surrounding business tycoon Terry Gou's potential presidential bid.

With merely six months left until the 2024 presidential election, DPP Secretary-General Hsu Li-ming expressed unease over Gou's future political trajectory during the Central Executive Committee session earlier that day, stating that the DPP could not afford an optimistic outlook.

Hsu urged the DPP to closely monitor Gou's political maneuvers and the scenario around the petition signing in mid-September.

As Gou's rally is scheduled in Pingtung this evening, Hsu expressed concerns regarding his electoral stance and upcoming developments, calling for the DPP to remain cautious.

Some party members also stressed the unpredictability of whether Gou's potential candidacy would speed up the process of teaming up with Taiwan People's Party presidential hopeful Ko Wen-je.

Taiwan's Vice President and DPP presidential candidate, Lai Ching-te, will visit Paraguay on Aug. 12. Hsu emphasized the importance of closely monitoring international situations.
