TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kuomintang (KMT) presidential candidate Hou Yu-ih devotes energy to campaign activities while supporting Legislative Yuan contestants' bids, according to KMT chairman Eric Chu.

Chu made the comment on Monday (Aug. 14) while announcing polling data showing a narrowing gap between Hou and Taiwan People's Party candidate Ko Wen-je. The difference between Hou and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate, Lai Ching-te, appears to be closing.

Hou's support rate lags behind Ko by 2-3 percentage points, while he trails Lai by about 10 percent. The poll, released by TVBS News Network, specifies support for Lai at 32-33%, Ko at 25-26%, and Hou at 22-23%.

During his visit to Japan, Hou stressed the mantra "Safe Taiwan, Peaceful Japan," consistently promoting peace and earning widespread endorsement. Hou will travel to the U.S. in early-to-mid September, and the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) has assured his team that all candidates will receive equal treatment.

Hou is steadfast in preserving the current Taiwan-U.S. cooperation status and hopes his trip will boost his standings against Ko and Lai.
