New Taipei City gov’t clarifies Hou’s U.S. trip expenses covered by campaign office (TVBS News)

TAIPEI (TVBS News) —The New Taipei City government clarified on Friday (Aug. 5) that expenses for Kuomintang (KMT) presidential candidate Hou' Yu-ih's U.S. trip will be covered by his campaign office.

The city government assured the public that no additional budget was used to cover the expenses for Hou Yu-ih's visit to the U.S.

Hou, who is scheduled to visit the United States from Sept. 14 to 21 had been on the receving end of various speculations about the funding for the U.S. trip after media reports revealed that Hou would be visiting the 9/11 Memorial & Museum in New York City.

Joining Hou on his U.S. trip will be KMT's deputy chairman, Andrew Hsia, KMT Legislator Johnny Chiang, and Director of KMT International Affairs, Huang Jie-cheng. However, the former KMT secretary-general and Hou's current campaign manager, King Pu-tsung, will not be joining this trip.

After his U.S. visit, Hou is expected to take a leave from New Taipei City's mayoral duties from the end of September to early October to focus on his presidential campaign.
