TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) spokesperson Chang Chih-hao reiterated on Tuesday (Aug. 29) that Terry Gou's decision to run for the 2024 presidential election is an internal matter of Kuomintang (KMT) party.

Meanwhile, DPP Secretary-General Hsu Li-ming has directed the party to remain vigilant at both central and local government levels following Gou's announcement.

On Monday, the business tycoon announced his candidacy for the 2024 elections, leading many to speculate whether Gou will have any significant endorsement from the DPP.

Top officials from the DPP pointed out that Gou's campaign has yet to unify the opposition parties, adding that the Foxconn founder's "alliance on mainstream public opinion" failed to resonate with the DPP.

The DPP party expressed hopes to utilize rational political views to combat their opponents, setting a democratic model.

As four strong candidates in the presidential race is a first in Taiwan, Chang emphasized his respect for everyone's right to run for office while urging the KMT and the Taiwan People's Party (TPP) not to use Gou's candidacy for malicious manipulation.
