A new typhoon may form on Tuesday, the CWB reports.

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) lifted sea and land warnings for Typhoon Haikui on Tuesday (Sept. 5) and forecasted another tropical depression could potentially become the 13th typhoon of the year.

The CWB noted that the tropical depression, currently located southeast of Taiwan, could become Typhoon Yuan Yang as early as this morning. However, it is unlikely to directly impact the island nation as it is moving northeast toward Japan.

As Haikui heads to China, sporadic showers are intermittently predicted across Taiwan, including sporadic rains expected in Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu.

According to the bureau, heavy rainfall will likely occur in central and northern Taiwan due to solar heating effects in the afternoon.

The eastern and southern regions might encounter periodic rain showers or thunderstorms from Wednesday to Friday, resulting from the impact of the low-pressure belt.
