TAOYUAN (TVBS News) — Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen departed for a 4-day trip to Eswatini on Tuesday (Sept. 5) morning to celebrate and further facilitate the two nations' bilateral relations.

Departing from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, Tsai revealed two significant goals the delegation hopes to achieve during the trip: "celebrating our two countries' enduring friendship and advancing our sustainable cooperation."

She pointed out the importance of the event in Eswatini, as it's not only to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the nation's independence, but also the 55th birthday of King Mswati III.

In addition, it also marks the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Taiwan and Eswatini.

"I will represent the people of Taiwan to give our sincerest congratulations and celebrate our long-standing diplomatic relations," Tsai said.

The Taiwanese President pointed out that Eswatini has remained steadfast in advocating for Taiwan's participation in international organizations in the face of rising authoritarianism.

She added that since King Mswati III's ascension to the throne in 1986, he has visited Taiwan 18 times in support.

Tsai explained that Taiwan and Eswatini will continue to cooperate closely in the important fields of public health medicine and education, among many others.

Upon departing, four F-16 fighter jets could be seen flying alongside the President's plane to ensure maximum security.
