TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Chang Shao-pin, deputy spokesperson for the New Taipei City Government, claimed on Thursday (Sept. 7) that Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate Lai Ching-te's family home in the city is illegally constructed.

Chang emphasized the city government's unequivocal stance: "Any new or existing illegal construction is considered illegitimate and will be dealt with according to the law."

He explained that a legal household must meet multiple criteria. He urged Lai to follow the regulations set by former Premier Su Tseng-chang when he was the magistrate of "Taipei County," to set an example for society.

Addressing the city government's investigation into its land use, Chang highlighted that it is not permitted for residential purposes as it is mining land, adding that the Bureau of Mines will inspect it with the city's land of administration.

Furthermore, Lai contended that the house was built before the "Regional Plan of North Taiwan"(北部區域計畫) was implemented in 1981 and that the home received its official address number earlier in 1971, which serves as proof of its legality.
