TAIPEI (TVBS News) — On Wednesday (Sept. 13), the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) held a press conference criticizing Taiwan People's Party (TPP) Chairman Ko Wen-je's handling of the ongoing controversies surrounding Hsinchu City Mayor Kao Hung-an.

The press conference was hosted by Hsinchu City Councillors Liu Kang-yan and Yang Ling-yi, legislative candidate Lin Chih-chieh, and DPP spokesman Chang Chih-hao. They questioned Ko's proposal to establish a third-party external mechanism, likening it to the "Censorate," a supervisory agency in Imperial China.

While the TPP plans to introduce a third-party reporting platform to prevent corruption and sexual harassment, the DPP rebutted that the TPP already has a comprehensive system of party discipline but has hastily discarded it.

Regarding the controversies surrounding Mayor Kao, allegations of a lavish lifestyle and her boyfriend's alleged gains from her position have emerged.

The DPP criticized Kao for diverting attention away from these issues by focusing on unrelated topics such as green energy and egg imports, areas she had previously shown no interest in.

Furthermore, the DPP raised governance concerns within Hsinchu City under the protection of the TPP, including bus service reductions, school bus fare increases, and a lack of safety measures for student transportation.

The DPP strongly criticized Kao's administration, asserting that the city government had come to a standstill and was riddled with chaos under her leadership.
