NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The opposition Kuomintang (KMT) presidential candidate and New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih said Wednesday (Sept. 13) that he is confident about his trip to the U.S. from Sept. 14 to Sept. 21.

Speaking after the New Taipei City municipal administrative meeting, Hou didn't disclose the details of the upcoming eight-day trip. He said that his campaign team was almost finished with the planning and would brief the public at the right moment.

When asked why King Pu-tsung, the former representative to the U.S. and the CEO of Hou's campaign team, would not be joining the trip, Hou responded to the reporters saying it is the responsibility of the candidate to visit the U.S.

"It is most important for the candidate to deepen the Taiwan-U.S. relationship when visiting the U.S. and the cross-strait issues that many care about," Hou said. "And to strengthen the economy and cooperation between Taiwan and the U.S. to bring the people a good life.”

Hou is expected to meet with U.S. Congress members and the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Chairwoman Laura Rosenberger and give speeches at think tanks during his visit.

Hou is also expected to travel to New York, New Jersey, Washington, D.C., and San Francisco, and host banquets for overseas Taiwanese.
