TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A poll published by China Times on Thursday (Sept. 14) suggested that an alliance between the Kuomintang (KMT) and Taiwan's People Party (TPP) could overwhelmingly defeat the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

The survey showed that if KMT presidential candidate Hou Yu-ih joined forces with TPP candidate Ko Wen-je as his running mate, they would garner 38.4% support, outpolling a joint ticket by Vice President Lai Ching-te and Taiwan's representative to the U.S. Hsiao Bi-khim's 29.6% by 8.8 percentage points.

On the other hand, if Ko were to run as the presidential candidate with Hou as the vice presidential candidate, they would secure an even higher approval rating of 38.9%, surpassing Lai and Hsiao's 28.9%.

While the "Lai-Hsiao" combination is more popular among seniors above 60, the margin is not significant. However, the "Hou-Ko" pairing would rally young voters, obtaining support from over 40% of those aged 59 years and below.

This analysis indicated that a Ko-Hou team could win over young voters, tipping the scales in favor of what has traditionally been a green-leaning demographic.
