TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Premier Chen Chien-jen reassured the public about the safety of eggs sold in the market during the legislative interpellation on Tuesday (Sept. 26).

Although errors were found on labels, he confirmed that all egg products sold were within their expiration dates, and there was no food safety issue to be concerned about.

This response was prompted by a query from Kuomintang Legislator Tseng Ming-chung. In his response, Premier Chen deflected probes about his management of the ongoing crisis, attributing the mislabeling to manufacturers' "misunderstanding of regulations" instead.

Regarding the Kaohsiung City Government's recent move to impose penalties of NT$10 million on the responsible parties, with a bail posted of NT$300,000,

Premier Chen added that the issue stems not from the country's egg import policy but from certain businesses' regulatory violations.

His remarks also addressed the resignation of the then-Minister of Agriculture, Chen Chi-Chung. The premier praised Chen for his willingness to accept responsibility and for his significant contributions to the welfare of the agricultural and fishing industries.

However, due to significant public backlash arising from this incident, Chen Chi-Chung chose to step down.
