President Tsai unveils first Taiwan-made submarine, Hai Kun

KAOHSIUNG (TVBS News) — Taiwan has proudly unveiled its first domestically manufactured submarine, Hai Kun. President Tsai Ing-wen hailed this development as a crucial step in the nation's pursuit of enhancing its capabilities for "asymmetric warfare." The unveiling ceremony unfolded at a naval facility in Kaohsiung, marking a significant milestone in Taiwan's efforts to bolster its national defense.

President Tsai, speaking at the event, emphasized the importance of the nationalization of submarines, stating, "The nationalization of submarines is not just a goal. It's the realization of our determination to protect our country." She further underlined the submarine's strategic significance, describing it as a vital component of the Navy's development of "asymmetric warfare capabilities."

 

Taiwan has been focusing on self-reliant national defense to ensure the continuous improvement of its combat power and enhance its resilience in the face of evolving security challenges. President Tsai said this endeavor is critical for national security, even with risks and challenges.
