TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Typhoon Koinu continues to gain strength, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA) which anticipates sea and land warnings issued on Tuesday (Oct. 3).

CWA forecaster Liu Pei-teng said on Monday that the brunt of Typhoon Koinu will impact Taiwan on Wednesday and Thursday and could pass directly through the island.

Rain in greater Taipei, the northern coast of Keelung, and Yilan is expected on Tuesday, with all counties having the chance of sporadic showers increasing into the evening.

The CWA's analysis also indicates that the typhoon's eye could make landfall on the Hengchun Peninsula, with Hualien and Taitung expectedly being the hardest-hit regions in terms of wind and rain intensity.

Liu Pei-teng advises that the typhoon's path may still change, and whether a typhoon holiday will be declared requires further observation and depends on the policies of each municipality.
