TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and opposition Kuomintang (KMT) presidential candidates responded on Tuesday (Oct. 3) to the scandal involving the egg critic faking threats.

Lin Yu-hung, who uses the handle "Lin Bay Hao You (好油)" on Facebook, admitted on the same day in a Facebook post that some threats he claimed to have received after criticizing the DPP's egg import policies were fabricated by himself and his friend, Hsu Che-pin, a KMT party worker.

While highlighting Taiwan's progress in democracy, DPP's Lai Ching-te said that the self-directed act is "very inappropriate."

"If this incident is confirmed to be self-directed and actualized, this will be the first time since Taiwan's democratization that an opposition party worker has used this method to discredit the government, create confrontation, cause social panic, and attempt to gain electoral benefits," Lai added, demanding the KMT to get to the bottom of this.

Hou, who attended an event in Pintung, also commented on the issue but first questioned the DPP's egg import policy and demanded the DPP investigate thoroughly. He asked: "The most important questions are: how did you import your eggs? Is there any inside story of government-business collusion? Have you found out yet? Not yet?"

Lin, who is also a DPP member, posted his apology for faking threats on Facebook and, at the same time, announced that he would withdraw from the party.
