PINGTUNG (TVBS News) — Typhoon Koinu has departed Taiwan, but the aftermath still lingers in Hengchun Township, Pingtung County, where the streets bear the scars of strong winds and heavy rain.

As of Friday (Oct. 3), many stores remained closed on Kending Rd, a famous tourist spot in Pingtung. Gates, signboards, leaves, and even the washing machine blown down from the second floor scattered on the street. The persistent rain made store owners unable to clean up the mess.

A couple visiting from the U.S. told TVBS reporters that they had been in Pingtung since Monday, but their week-long vacation was unfortunately canceled due to the typhoon.

"There wasn't a single store open last night, so we had to eat what was in the convenience store," the husband shared. "And we came here this morning to see what's open."

With the Double Tenth four-day holiday approaching, store owners can only get ready to open while the rain is light. However, a hotel owner noted 10% of room cancellations over the holiday.
