TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Broadcasting Corp of China Chairman Jaw Shaw-kong promoted eight Kuomintang (KMT) policy draft proposals during the 'BLUE FIGHTERS' briefing on Wednesday (Oct. 11).

Prominent attendees of the event included KMT presidential hopeful Hou Yu-ih, former Kaohsiung Mayor Han Kuo-yu, and former KMT Vice Chairman Hau Lung-pin.

The policy draft covers several key elements, including extending the operational life of Taiwan's nuclear plants and reinstating the Special Investigation Division (SID) to investigate high-ranking officials allegedly involved in corruption within the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

Jaw also endorsed the implementation of a Cabinet system, a proposition supported by Taiwan People's Party (TPP) Chairman Ko Wen-je.

In terms of the military, their proposals suggest raising the monthly salary for low-ranking military personnel by NT$20,000 and reducing conscription to four months.

Taking a more conciliatory approach to cross-strait relations, the KMT suggests establishing liaison offices between the Taiwan Straits, potentially in Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, and Guangzhou.

Regarding education, the draft outlines measures for tuition-free college education for 300,000 public university students and 680,000 private university students. Jaw also calls for abolishing the bilingual policy.

During the briefing, Han's presence garnered significant attention, especially after his recent Facebook post featuring him with TPP hopeful Ko Wen-je and his meeting with KMT Chairman Eric Chu.

The public is closely observing whether Han can play a pivotal role in uniting independent presidential candidate Terry Gou, KMT hopeful Hou Yu-ih, and TPP hopeful Ko Wen-je, as many see this as the opposition's best opportunity to beat the ruling DPP in the forthcoming 2024 election.
