NANTOU (TVBS News) — A newlywed couple chose a "garbage mountain" in Puli Township, Nantou County, as their wedding photo shoot backdrop on Saturday (Oct. 14), an unconventional move aiming to highlight Taiwan's garbage crisis.

The bride, surnamed Hsueh, noted the growing presence of such garbage heaps across several places, with waste generation increasing yearly. "Taiwan is so beautiful. I hope we can reduce the amount of trash," she said.

This landfill holds tons of trash, causing ongoing distress to nearby residents due to the firm, unpleasant odor.

The garbage piling issue is further complicated as the county lacks incinerators, forcing it to rely on other cities and counties for waste management assistance.

Despite transporting 200 tons of trash daily for external processing, several thousands of tons remain accumulated in the landfill, underscoring the severity of waste problems in Taiwan.
