MIAOLI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA) reported that the chill of autumn reached a new low for the season on Tuesday (Oct. 17), with the lowest temperature of 17.2℃ recorded in Xihu Township, Miaoli County.

Under the influence of the northeast monsoon, significant diurnal temperature variations are observed in both the central and southern regions of Taiwan.

On Tuesday, regions in eastern Taiwan, the Hengchun Peninsula, parts of southern Taiwan, the mountainous areas of central Taiwan, and Penghu witnessed scattered brief showers. The rest of the regions, including Kinmen and Matzu, experienced partly sunny to sunny weather.

The CWA noted the influence of the northeastern monsoon will weaken slightly on Wednesday, with only scattered showers expected in eastern Taiwan and other mountainous areas. Taoyuan to Yunlin, open areas along the coast of the Hengchun Peninsula, Penghu, Kinmen, and Orchid Island are prone to strong gusts of level 8 to 9 on the Beaufort scale .

According to the latest simulations from the United States National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP), weather disturbances are likely to form significantly in the South China Sea. However, these disturbances are highly likely to move towards Hainan Island, posing no direct threat to Taiwan.
