TAIPEI (TVBS News) — During a meeting with a parliamentary delegation from Belgium on Wednesday (Oct. 17), President Tsai Ing-wen affirmed that Taiwan and Belgium share universal values such as freedom and democracy, underpinning the robust elevation of their bilateral relationship.

President Tsai expressed hopes to establish institutionalized cooperation in complementary fields like cybersecurity, creating a win-win situation.

Secretary-General to the President Lin Chia-lung accompanied Tsai in welcoming the delegation, led by Els Van Hoof, Chairwoman of the Belgian Chamber of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee and co-chair of the Belgium-Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Group, along with seven other parliament members.

President Tsai recognized that over the past three years, the Belgian Chamber of Representatives, Federal Parliament, Flemish Parliament, and Walloon Parliament have all passed resolutions supporting Taiwan's international participation and deepening bilateral relations.

The President noted that the Belgian government publicly supported Taiwan's participation in the World Health Assembly (WHA) consecutively for three years. Belgian Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib also supported this stance.

Tsai added that Taiwan and Belgium have reaped collaborative achievements in offshore wind farm construction and the semiconductor industry in recent years, expressing hopes to continue deepening this partnership.
