TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The National Communications Commission (NCC) announced on Wednesday (Oct. 25) the continuing expansion of measures against telecommunications fraud.

NCC's actions include joint defenses with communications firms Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile, Far EasTong Telecommunications (FET), TSTAR, and Asia-Pacific Telecom Co., Ltd (ATP).

Since June 16, the NCC has required telecom operators to consistently strengthen their Know Your Customer (KYC) risk management mechanisms, implement special audits for high-risk customers, and reinforce risk management measures.

Telecom operators have continued promoting anti-fraud measures, including barring calls mimicked with "+886 0-8" and fake roaming calls with "+886 9," and boosting voice warning functions.

Statistics from the NCC show substantial success from these measures, with a 97% blockage rate of fraudulent calls mimicked as "+886 0-8".

The data also indicated that the number of fraudulent calls decreased from 6.72 million in April to 230,000 in September due to the implementation of these security measures.
