TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan Semiconductor Industry Association (TSIA) Chair Cliff Hou (侯永清) emphasized on Friday (Oct. 27) the significance of preparing for dramatic changes in the global semiconductor industry driven by the AI revolution, outlining four key points.

To begin with, Hou emphasized the importance of a stable power supply for the semiconductor industry and the urgency to address issues caused by the increasing demand for green energy sources as Taiwan aims to achieve a net-zero economy by 2050.

Second, Hou called on the government to initiate corporate income tax reductions to stimulate research activities for small and medium enterprises, which often face funding challenges.

Furthermore, Hou encouraged the government to inspire young students and female talents and even consider opening borders overseas in response to the fertility crisis in Taiwan, which has led to a decline in birth rates in recent years.

Hou concluded the proposal with an appeal to the government to define the core technologies that Taiwan should develop, ensuring a robust and reliable foundation for the semiconductor industry.
