KMT, TPP legislative majority threatens Taiwan: Lai Ching-te (TVBS News)

HSINCHU (TVBS News) — Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential hopeful Lai Ching-te warned on Sunday (Oct. 29) that if the Kuomintang (KMT) and Taiwan People's Party (TPP) gained a majority in the Legislative Yuan, it could pose a threat to Taiwan's security.

Lai's statement comes amid claims that Xu Chunying, the president of the Taiwan Association for the Development of New Immigrants (社團法人台灣新住民發展協會), is reported to be a Chinese Communist Party (CCP) member and is allegedly to be on the list of TPP's legislator-at-large nominees.

Amid the controversy, Huang Shan-shan, the campaign manager for the TPP's presidential candidate Ko Wen-je, has argued that Ning Chia-jung, a member of the DPP's New Immigrants Affairs Committee (民進黨新住民事務委員會), was also a former member of the CCP.

Reasserting his concerns during a rally on Sunday, Lai argued that if Xu were a legislator, she would have access to sensitive national information. Furthermore, her potential collaboration with KMT lawmaker Ma Wen-chun could jeopardize national security.

Lai noted that if the KMT and TPP form the majority, Taiwan might face significant vulnerabilities, and the manufacturing of Taiwan's eight submarines may cease.
