TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan People's Party (TPP) Chairman Ko Wen-je on Wednesday (Nov. 1) asked Kuomintang (KMT) Chairman Eric Chu to propose a solution for selecting the strongest presidential candidate, warning that further meetings would be pointless otherwise.

During a press conference focused on his energy plan, Ko told reporters that Chu had attempted to schedule another meeting between them. However, Ko said that unless Chu comes up with a solution, there's no reason for another meeting as both sides remain entrenched in their positions.

A closed-door meeting held a day earlier involving Ko, Chu, and KMT presidential candidate Hou Yu-ih ended without any consensus. "All I ask for is fair rules of the game. So how can we solve this if you don't dare to have this race?" Ko questioned.

Ko continues to support using a public opinion poll to determine the candidates, while Hou advocates for exploring new solutions. "The two chairmen from both parties need to think about how we can move forward together in innovative ways," Hou said.

At a separate event, Chu suggested looking for alternatives that don't involve a competitive selection process within the party. With less than three weeks remaining until the registration deadline, the future of the KMT-TPP alliance remains uncertain.
