TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Four regional governments in Taiwan have banned a popular toy knife called the "carrot knife" from schools due to safety concerns.

Originally from mainland China, the "carrot knife" — nicknamed for its shape — has been trending among the local student community. The trend came to the island country via TikTok and Xiaohongshu, popular social media platforms.

Yunlin County, Keelung City, Hsinchu County, Miaoli County, and Taichung City have all implemented formal restrictions against plastic retractable plastic toys.

The ban primarily links to the nature of the toy, which the pointed tip on its front end poses a potential danger, creating anxiety among schools and parents alike.

Taipei City and New Taipei City advise students to avoid bringing the toys to school. Meanwhile, other municipalities require schools to strengthen safety management and implement safety education.
