Ko Wen-je stands firm as TPP

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — In a fierce lead-up to Taiwan's 2024 election, Taiwan People's Party (TPP) candidate Ko Wen-je's campaign manager Vivian Huang announced on Facebook Wednesday night (Nov. 22) that Ko would persevere as the TPP's presidential candidate.

Earlier in the day, Huang had represented the campaign at the Central Election Commission (CEC) to fetch the necessary forms, signifying their readiness to compete.

Meanwhile, Ko's Kuomintang (KMT) counterpart, rival candidate Hou Yu-ih, suggested both parties should publicly review nine opinion polls and broadcast the process live, a proposal aimed at transparency and, perhaps, finding common ground to commence with the parties' collaboration.

However, Huang dismissed Hou's proposal, maintaining that scientific data would remain unaltered upon reevaluation and implying that their campaign had no doubts about their standing with the electorate.

She emphasized that Ko Wen-je intended to run as the TPP nominee, even without a formal partnership with the KMT.

Ko's campaign spokesman, Austin Tai, reiterated the tone of Ko's candidacy and clarified his current status in the race, signaling a steady and unshaken campaign.

Ko is slated to primarily convene with his staff for campaign meetings on Thursday and has made no plans to register at the CEC on that day.

As election fervor continues, Ko Wen-je remains a steadfast figure in Taiwan's dynamic political landscape, committed to contesting the presidency with or without broader coalition support.
