TAIPEI (TVBS News) — In a significant political development on Thursday (Nov. 23), Kuomintang (KMT) presidential candidate Hou Yu-ih waited at former President Ma Ying-jeou's office for a meeting, while Taiwan People's Party (TPP) presidential hopeful Ko Wen-je visited the home of independent candidate Terry Gou.

Ko formally extended an invitation to Gou on a Facebook post earlier in the day, expressing hopes of consolidating opposition forces, emphasizing the necessity of unity among them for a potential political transition in 2024.

Ko hailed Gou's vision for a "peaceful, prosperous, and clean" governance, aligning it with his own principles.

The synergy between the two has been noted, as Ko has made multiple visits to Gou, acknowledging his forward-thinking approach to international affairs.

Gou, along with his vice presidential candidate Tammy Lai, has made an impressive political statement by garnering 1.03 million signatures for their presidnential bid, a record number since Taiwan's direct presidential elections commenced in 1996.

Ko has been vocal about Taiwan's challenging scenario, which includes issues like an aging population, resource shortages, low wages, inflation, slow industrial transformation, and unaffordable housing.

Calling for opposition unity to facilitate a party rotation in the 2024 elections, Ko sees Gou as a catalyst for positive changes in trade, foreign relations, and industrial upgrading.

In concluding his post, Ko reiterated his call to Hou Yu-ih, encouraging a collaborative effort to dedicate themselves to Taiwan's future.
