TAIPEI (TVBS News) —Taiwan's independent presidential candidate Terry Gou expressed his willingness on Thursday (Nov. 23) to serve as a mediator between the Kuomintang (KMT), Taiwan People's Party (TPP), and himself in tripartite talks.

The announcement came shortly after TPP presidential candidate Ko Wen-je proposed a meeting with KMT candidate Hou Yu-ih, while also hoping to head to Gou's home to discuss matters, but later decided to hold a meeting at the Grand Hyatt hotel at 5 p.m.

Gou, who insisted on running independently, stated that since his candidacy announcement, his aim has been to achieve a "peaceful, prosperous, and clean" vision of governance, highlighting the importance of these goals for a democratic transition in Taiwan.

His ambition is creating the next "golden thirty years" for the Republic of China (Taiwan), and improving the living standards for the people of Taiwan, Gou explained.

As the election registration deadline approaches, he emphasized that this is a critical juncture for changing Taiwan's future.

"None of us in Taiwan is an outsider," Gou stressed, elucidating his belief that unity among opposition forces is vital to find a strategy capable of challenging the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

Gou underscored that the upcoming 2024 presidential election is not only crucial for the future of political parties but also for the future development of Taiwan.

Advocating drastic reforms, Gou proposed the formation of a coalition government as a means to propel national development, a move that could reshape Taiwan's political landscape if realized.
