Taiwan’s CEC draws ballot numbers for presidential race

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — In the lead-up to Taiwan's presidential election, the Central Election Commission (CEC) held a draw Monday (Dec. 11) morning to determine the candidate numbers for the ballots.

The Taiwan People's Party (TPP)'s Ko Wen-je and Cynthia Wu drew number one and announced their campaign slogan "The 'One' and Only Choice."

 

Following them, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)'s Lai Ching-teh and Hsiao Bi-khim will be number two on the ballot. Their campaign slogan is "Vote for presidential number two for virtue and steady progress."

The Kuomintang (KMT) duo Hou Yu-ih and Jaw Shaw-kong secured the number three spot, with a slogan that promises reliability and betterment for Taiwan: "Vote for number three for president, and let us be your support; Change to number three for a fresh Taiwan and benefits for the people. Vote Hou and Jaw, everything will be OK."

The lottery, held at 10 a.m., drew numbers in the order that parties registered for the election: DPP, TPP, then KMT.
 

The drawing of lots for regional legislators and indigenous candidates, as well as party-list legislators, is scheduled for Dec. 20, organized by the CEC and local election commissions.

The CEC plans to announce the official list of presidential and vice-presidential candidates on Dec. 15.

Ahead of the election, three televised presidential policy presentation sessions have been scheduled for 7 p.m. on Dec. 20, 2 p.m. on Dec. 26, and 7 p.m. on Dec. 28.

Vice-presidential candidates will express their views on TV on Dec. 22 at 7 p.m.

A presidential debate is set for 2 p.m. on Dec. 30, hosted by the Public Television Service and co-organized by 11 media outlets. A vice-presidential debate is preliminarily scheduled for Jan. 1, 2024, at the same time and venue.
