TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A leading meteorologist issued a warning on Sunday (Dec. 17) about an approaching stronger and more prolonged cold front in Taiwan, advising residents to prepare for even colder weather.

Cheng Ming-dean, former director-general of the Central Weather Bureau, stated that the forthcoming cold front would be more potent and long-lasting compared to the current one.

In recent days, Taiwan has been experiencing low temperatures due to the influence of a mainland cold air mass. Although temperatures increased slightly on Monday, a more formidable wave of cold air is anticipated to follow.

Cheng, in a Facebook post accompanied by a meteorological analysis chart, highlighted that "the cold air is still intensifying, and the warm air inside the Arctic Circle to its north is also getting stronger."

According to the Central Weather Administration (CWA), the mainland air mass is expected to gradually move southward by Tuesday, leading to a drop in temperatures.

This shift is likely to bring brief, localized rain to northern, eastern, and the Hengchun Peninsula, while Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu are expected to remain mostly cloudy.

Residents are advised to stay alert and ensure they stay warm as the weather continues to change.
