TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese 'King of Mandopop' Jay Chou surprised fans with the release of a new song, "Christmas Star," at 9 p.m on Thursday (Dec. 21), just as the holiday season is in full swing.
Chou shared details about the song during a prior Kuaishou livestream, revealing that the title would be three Chinese characters long, the music video would feature a fireplace, and the introduction would include the sound of firewood crackling, sparking online buzz.
The music video was shot against an eye-catching European town backdrop, with lip-syncing scenes filmed inside a gingerbread-like house decorated festively for Christmas. Chou showcased a variety of costumes in the video, including Christmas-themed garb and stylish gentlemanly attire.
"Christmas Star" marks another collaboration between Chou and Gary Yang following their previously successful track, "Waiting For You." Yang not only contributed his voice but also played a role in the music video.
Throughout his career, Chou has penned a plethora of songs resonating with different holidays. He views "Christmas Star" as a unique theme he hadn't approached earlier.
The song was initially scheduled to make waves on Friday Taiwan time. However, due to the record company's decision to unveil it on YouTube at 12 a.m. New Zealand time on Dec. 22, Taiwanese fans got a head start, enjoying the song as early as Dec. 21.
