NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The junior high school male student who was fatally stabbed in New Taipei City by another student has sadly passed away on Tuesday (Dec. 26), the city's Education Department confirmed on Wednesday (Dec. 27).

The incident, which involved five knife wounds to the victim’s neck and lungs, resulted in his death despite hospitalization and emergency treatment.

The apparent impetus for the tragedy began at lunchtime on Dec. 25, when a displeased female student recruited another student she viewed as a brother figure to retaliate against the victim who had reportedly rebuked her.

The victim, after quarreling with the male, was stabbed five times, twice striking his lungs and neck. He suffered significant blood loss and was transported to Far Eastern Memorial Hospital for treatment before finally stabilizing somewhat after a five-hour fight for his life.

Speculation of his death arrived via a post on the PTT Gossip Board forum yesterday evening and was later verified by the Education Department.

In light of this incident, the department has pledged to fortify measures to ensure student safety.

Counselors and social workers will be dispatched to provide follow-up guidance as part of an intensified collaboration with police agencies.

Moreover, particular focus will be given to students identified as needing more support and supervision.

The Education Department, along with civic officers, and the school are working together to assist the victim's family with legal consultation and other requirements.

This will involve coordination with the Family Education Center and the Department of Social Welfare staff.

The Education Dept. is also aiming to continually enhance teachers' campus security capabilities in the wake of this tragic event.
