TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Education Minister Pan Wen-chung announced measures to enhance school safety on Thursday (Dec. 28) in response to the recent fatal throat-slitting incident at a New Taipei City school.

Premier Chen Chien-jen also instructed the education ministry to expedite psychological support for students and staff while bolstering personnel and funding where needed.

A multi-stakeholder group, including the Judicial Yuan, municipalities, civil organizations, teachers, and parents, will convene next week to collaborate on preventing such tragedies, according to reports.

The government also plans to review counseling and assessment mechanisms in intermediary education. Pan hinted at the possibility of adding security staff to schools.

A junior high school student in New Taipei City was fatally stabbed by another student on Monday. The assailant is in custody, and the investigation will follow Juvenile Justice Act procedures.
