TAOYUAN (TVBS News) — As the 2024 elections approach rapidly, Hou Yu-íh and Jaw Shaw-kong, the Kuomintang's (KMT) presidential and vice-presidential candidates, held a 'Victory Solidarity Rally' in Taoyuan on Saturday (Jan. 6), urging voters to reject Taiwan People's Party (TPP) candidate Ko Wen-je to ensure the effectiveness of strategic voting.
According to the TVBS News Network, the event was packed with nearly 100,000 attendees by the time Hou and Jaw arrived on-site at approximately 8 p.m.
Former Kaohsiung Mayor Han Kuo-yu dubbed Ko as an 'air gun' during his speech, implying that Ko is all hot air but not a likely winner of the election. Han appealed to those supporting Ko, framing the election not as a matter of choosing the better person but as a matter of victory. He noted that the Hou-Jaw ticket and the Democratic Progressive Party's (DPP) candidates, Lai Ching-te and Hsiao Bi-khim, might win or lose within a margin of 100,000 votes.
In his address, Han directly condemned Lai, criticizing him for treating the Republic of China (R.O.C.) and its constitution as a disaster. He claimed Lai had no qualification to run for the R.O.C.'s presidency.
"How could a miner's child become Vice President without the protection of the ROC?" Han sharply reviled at Lai, hinting at Lai's perceived ingratitude towards the R.O.C.
