TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taipower emphasized on Tuesday (Jan. 16) that Taiwan will continue to foster renewable energy trends despite the recent general election results.

The development of renewable energy in Taiwan is no longer dependent on any political parties but a significant trend, Tseng Wen-sheng, the acting chairman of Taipower, stressed.

Tseng explained that Taipower's total electricity sale in 2023 was 233 billion kilowatt-hours, a 1.6% decrease from 2022, primarily due to industry consumption of less power.

However, he noted that power use in commercial and domestic sectors has increased.

Tseng underscored that green energy is significant for Taiwan's export-oriented industries; the drive for renewable energy will remain relentless.

As for potential new adjustments or innovative ways to promote renewable energy, Tseng acknowledged the necessity for further evaluation.

In response to questions about the possibility of changes in nuclear energy stance following the election, Tseng pointed out that the new congress would hold more discussions on power use and choice.

He stated that Taipower is prepared to partake by providing and presenting data in the congressional report and will respect and comply with any decisions made by the parliament.
