TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Yuan Zai, the beloved giant panda, is in good health, according to a medical report released on Wednesday (Jan. 17) by the Taipei Zoo. The comprehensive check, which included ophthalmology, hematology, and a full-body CT scan, showed the panda is normal and weighs 114 kilograms.

The zoo had brought together a team of anesthesiology, dentistry, and radiology experts a day earlier to perform the extensive health examination. The routine physical involved a wide range of tests including a heart and abdominal ultrasound, a full-body computed tomography scan, and assessments of her dental and ocular health.

While overall results were normal, zoo officials noted that care must be taken regarding her previously broken incisor. Yuan Zai's lower left incisor had previously broken, requiring a root canal treatment. Conservation staff have been monitoring her closely.

Although Yuan Zai's incisor has lost some of its filling material due to her daily bamboo chomping, the root remains healthy, zoo officials said.

Looking ahead, the zoo has scheduled a health check for Yuan Bao, another resident giant panda, in February. The zoo is reminding the public, especially those who love the panda family, not to forget to arrange their own health checks and regular dental visits.
