TAIPEI (TVBS News) — In response to a cold front, Yangmingshan Elementary School decided on Monday (Jan. 22) to have a two-day cold break on Tuesday and Wednesday, becoming the first school in Taiwan to do so.
Principal Liang Chih-huan noted, "Considering the possibility of snowfall at our students' homes and the risk of icy roads, we have prioritized safety and suspended classes, which will be made up next Monday and Tuesday."
From Monday night to Tuesday morning, snow is also expected at Yangmingshan's Erziping trail. Local breakfast shops predict an increase in snow tourists and have stocked up an extra 20 percent of goods in preparation.
Students at the nearby Chinese Culture University, also located on Yangmingshan, are already on winter break. However, the decision for administrative staff to take time off is contingent on actual conditions.
In the event of snowfall, vehicle restrictions will be imposed on Yangde Boulevard, the main road to Yangmingshan. Only vehicles with passes will be allowed to proceed.
To reach the various control and snow viewing points on the mountain, vehicles will be required to have snow chains, or else they will be turned away. Buses will not enter the controlled areas.
