NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — In response to the winter chill, New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih personally visited homeless individuals on Sunday (Jan. 21) evening, distributing cold-weather supplies in hopes of aiding the less fortunate through the cold snap.

Affected by the cold wave, New Taipei City has initiated cold-weather care protocols. Mayor Hou led a team visiting homeless people at the New Taipei Xinzhunag Gymnasium, reminding them to pay attention to temperature changes.

The city government has mobilized relevant departments to visit the elderly living alone and has also started temporary housing for the homeless, providing beds and cold-weather resources. The government hopes that the homeless will check into hostels contracted with the city government to safely get through the winter.

New Taipei City's government has also dispatched district offices, volunteer groups, and community chiefs to proactively comfort or care for solitary seniors by phone. They are providing a variety of cold-weather health information, while also checking on their health conditions.

The city government reminds residents to pay attention to line safety and ventilation when using heating equipment or water heaters, to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning. With the implementation of these measures, officials aspire to ensure a safe and comfortable winter season for all.
