TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Due to EVA Air's imminent threat of strikes, the deputy minister of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) revealed on Monday (Jan. 22) that both the airline's management and their workforce are willing to negotiate further.

Pilots for Taiwan's EVA Air, backed by the Pilots Union Taoyuan (TUP), gained the right to strike following a vote earlier that day amid ongoing disputes over pay raises.

The industrial action is planned around the Lunar New Year holiday and may primarily influence long-haul flights to and from the U.S., Canada, and Europe.

Lin Kuo-hsien reminded that the power to strike is a part of the process, emphasizing that reaching a consensus between the employer and its employees remains crucial. The readiness to progress is present on both sides.

The Taoyuan City government's labor bureau is stepping in with mediation efforts set for Wednesday, as told by Lin.

Despite pilots securing the right to strike, the official highlighted that only negotiation could address the raised demands, expressing hope for quick discussions to iron out differences and reach consensus.
