TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kuomintang (KMT) Legislator Fu Kun-chi pledged to protect the media from the National Communications Commission’s (NCC) "oppression" on Thursday (Jan. 25).
Fu registered his candidacy for the position of KMT caucus coordinator, for which he will challenge fellow candidate Lai Shyh-bao.
Fu promised that if chosen, all NCC members must have the consent of the opposition party before they can take up their posts, and vowed that they would no longer be the "hired guns" of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
He called to all the media that had been suppressed by the NCC in the past, "Fu Kun-chi has come! The NCC can no longer bully you."
He vowed to allow the media to report in full detail, to report from a democratic and objective standpoint, and to be free from any further restrictions.
Fu expressed his readiness to confront the DPP caucus coordinator, Ker Chien-ming, and boldly asserted that his “heaven-reliant, dragon-slaying sword is ready.”
Despite the tenure of the caucus coordinator only lasting one year, Fu deems this a crucial period.
He intends to expose all of the DPP's wrongdoings, including issues related to vaccines, face masks, and submarines, vowing to let the people know the truth.
Moreover, Fu indicated he has open channels of communication with Ko Wen-je, emphasizing the need for the opposition party's solidarity against the ruling party.
