TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese tennis champion Hsieh Su-wei won her first Grand Slam mixed doubles title on Friday (Jan. 26), adding another sparkling jewel to her career.

Hsieh is the inaugural Taiwanese player to progress to the championship round of the women's and mixed doubles at the Australian Open. During the mixed doubles championship, Hsieh teamed up with Polish player Jan Zieliński. After three tough sets, they triumphed over American second seed Desirae Krawczyk and Brit Neal Skupski at 6:7, 6:4, 11:9.

This thrilling victory marks Hsieh's first time winning a mixed doubles championship, for which she will receive a prize of AUD $165,000 (approximately NT$ 3.46 million).

In women's doubles, Hsieh and her Belgian partner Elise Mertens advanced to the championship round after winning a match at 7:5, 1:6, 6:3. Hsieh already has six Grand Slam women's doubles trophies (two French Open titles, four Wimbledon titles) to her name and will contend for her seventh career Grand Slam women's doubles win on Sunday.

The prize for the women's doubles champions this year is AUD$730,000 (about NT$15.32 million), and the runners-up will receive AUD$400,000 (approximately NT$8.4 million).

Regardless of the outcome, Hsieh's accomplishments have already made an indelible mark in the history of Taiwanese tennis.
