TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Ker Chien-ming, the Democratic Progressive Party's (DPP) legislative caucus whip, declared on Monday (Jan. 29), that he is the most supportive of You Si-Kun's bid for the role of legislative speaker in all of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and Legislature.

However, Ker stated that the power to appoint You to the position now rests entirely on the decisions of Ko Wen-Je, the chairman of the Taiwan People's Party (TPP).

Ko Wen-Je had suggested a day earlier that Ker likely would not strongly support DPP legislator You Si-Kun's election as speaker.

The DPP caucus had proposed You Si-Kun for the post of legislative speaker and Tsai Chi-Chang as the vice speaker candidate in anticipation of the legislature's inauguration on Feb. 1.

Regarding whether You Si-Kun and Tsai Chi-Chang would meet with the TPP legislative caucus, Ker believes that they should make that decision themselves.

Critiquing the TPP caucus for inviting DPP and Kuomintang (KMT) candidates to discuss privately, Ker described its actions as sensational and absurd.

Ker remarked that the key issue now is Ko Wen-je's decision.

"Ko needs to consider whether to appoint Han Kuo-yu, the KMT candidate whom Ker worries may be influenced by the Chinese Communist Party (CPP), as a legislative speaker, Ker said.
